cloud-living-smallI was that excited about the release of this ebook that I may have bought if before it was officially launched. I had read dozens of Glens guest posts and was confident that Cloud Living would have the same level of high quality. I was right.

What is cloud living?

Cloud Living is the phrase Glen coined to describe the type of lifestyle where you make enough money online to fund your lifestyle.

He turned this concept into a 176 page book that is aimed at new to intermediate bloggers. It covers his two main methods of making money online, mini sites and blogs. Its jam packed with tips from his years of experience and is completely free of jargon and hype.

Who is Glen Alsopp?

Glen is this really cool guy who is living the real internet lifestyle. Here are some of his achievements thus far:

  • At 16 one of his websites was mentioned in the book “DJ’ing for Dummies”
  • At 17 he was featured on the Official Blog of a Google Engineer
  • At 17 he made over $4,000 online in one month
  • At 18 he became the Social Media Manager for multiple Fortune 100 Companies
  • One of his clients was featured on the Digg homepage over 40 times
  • At 19 he quit my job to work online full-time with his own websites
  • At 20 he is still doing it

I was pretty impressed when I read these stats on his salespage. I was even more impressed when I read how he accomplished it. I’d known about some of his recent accomplishments as I had seen his guest posts on sites such as:

The content:

The ebook is jam packed full of useful content. This isn’t information that has been rehashed and packaged. It has come from years of experience. There are two main types of internet structures he focuses on.

Minisites

I found the section on minisites fascinating. I had read a lot of information about them but couldn’t see how they could be a viable income source.

Not only did Glen explain it, he also provided a template theme to use in your own minisite and explained how you could convert the readers into buyers.

The content ranged from the simple to the more advanced:

  • Site Content
  • On-Site SEO Factors
  • Good Site vs Bad Site
  • Tracking Your Stats
  • Building Backlinks

Many of the tips mentioned here are completely different to the tips mentioned for blogging, which really intrigued me. I had mostly read the blog posts created by bloggers, which explained why both them and I had little success at creating mini sites. This section alone is well worth the cost of the ebook.

Blogging

This was the reason I had bought it for. I especially loved the later chapters on creating quality content, spreading your brand and niche engagement.

Some of the information will be second nature to established bloggers. A lot of the information though – like getting a gravatar and making your content easy to share – often takes the novice a considerable amount of time to learn.

I also really enjoyed how most of the topics in this chapter were related back to his personal experience. I have had considerable success with guest posting, twitter and blog commenting but Cloud Living made me re-examine some of my efforts.

Additional content:

The interviews

Glen interviewed two of my favorite bloggers, Jonathon Fields and Chris Guillibeau. These were highly motivational, especially when related to the other content of the ebook. I was also pleased to read that he had planned to interview Lea Woodward, who was due to give birth at the time.

Productivity tips

At the end, Glen provides some kick arse tips on how you can get the most out of your internet projects. This was really awesome, as so many people – myself included – just buy a product and never put the teachings into action.

This chapter motivated me to stay up late and write a review of a product that I thought could really help people. It wont change your life, but it will definitely motivate you to change.

Email support:

Personally, I think its amazing that he’s offering email support. I’ve heard of bloggers that have taken their product off the market to so they could keep up with their customers. This is a brilliant opportunity to learn from someone who is actually successful. It makes the product extremely low risk, even if you understand most of the information.

The videos:

Glen also offers 6 tutorial videos to explain some of the concepts featured in the book. I loved this as I learn better from video, and it allowed Glen to explain the core concepts in the ebook.

Do I recommend it?

I would have no product recommending this product. However, I believe that a new blogger will get the most out of it.

He obviously focused on creating a product of really good value.

Glenn already had a strong following online across multiple mediums. He could have created simpler products and made a lot of sales. Instead, he created a product that is packed full of value and aims to give the reader a broad understanding of the concepts involved in creating profitable blogs and mini sites.

On the sales page, it says he wrote it with the total beginner in mind. I agree. I skimmed over many parts of it, but I couldn’t help but be drawn to the information. I already knew it but I couldn’t stop wishing that if had been available when I was starting out.

Glen truly knows what he is talking about. He has been there and doesn’t pretend that he knows it all. I loved the authenticity that came through in his writing.

If you are new to blogging, this is one of the first ebooks you should read.
